Prof. Sydney Chung Sheung Chi, the SARS hero of HK and a WYHK71 graduate, will lead a Wah Yan team to participate in the Standard Chartered Marathon to be held on 17 Feb., 2008. Details of this marathon are in the following link; http://www.hkmarathon.com/hkmarathon/eng/home/index.html.
"I was a couch potato until I was 45. Distance running has changed my life." said Sydney, who has completed several marathons and ultramarathons.
To accompany him and form a Wah Yan team, we are now calling for runners to join this meaningful community event. All friends and students of Wah Yan, irrespective of whether they have already registered for the event, are welcome. Participants are responsible for their own registration with the organizer, the deadline of which is 30 Dec., 2007.
It would not be possible to train novice runners to marathon standard in the limited lead time available. Philip Kwok, a WYHK 71 and an experienced marathoner, has agreed to organize training runs to get team members up to speed for the 10 km race. These sessions will be conducted at 8 am on five Sundays ( 23/12, 30/12, 13/1, 3/2 and 10/2 ) at the running track of Wah Yan College, Kowloon. Please contact Philip at hcpkwok@hotmail.com or 98364032 for details if you wish to join.
We are also looking for corporate and individual sponsors for the Wah Yan team. You are welcome to put your company logo onto the running gears of the team or sponsor all or individual runners for a fixed sum or for each km. they completed. Please contact Daniel Mak, another WYHK71, at either retireddanielmak@msn.com or 67079653 for details. All proceeds from this event will go to the Wah Yan One Family Foundation.
